This is the second installment of samurai drama trilogy by director Yoji Yamada, based on the fiction by Shuhei Fujisawa. Although stands apart, each of the trilogy deals with a similar theme : a low-ranked samurai who faces a character-testing difficulties. Gone are the swashbuckling protagonist, instead Mr Yamada’s samurai faces many burdens and struggles in life and ultimately must make difficult choice to survive.
THE HIDDEN BLADE plots revolves around several samurai during a time of change in the ruling and class structures of Japan around 1860s.
