Racing Stripes (2005)

In the middle of a raging thunderstorm, a traveling circus accidentally leaves behind some very precious cargo–a baby zebra. The gangly little foal is rescued by horse farmer Nolan Walsh, who takes him home to his young daughter Channing. Once a champion thoroughbred trainer, Walsh has given up horse training for a quiet life with Channing on their modest Kentucky farm. The little zebra, or “Stripes,” as Channing calls him, is soon introduced to the farm’s misfit troupe of barnyard residents, led by a cranky Shetland Pony named Tucker and Franny, a wise old goat who keeps the family in line.

The group is joined by Goose, a deranged big-city pelican who’s hiding out in the sticks until the heat dies down in Jersey. The un-aptly named bloodhound Lightening keeps a lazy eye on goings-on at the farm - in between naps. The Walsh farm borders the Turfway Racetrack, where highly skilled thoroughbreds compete for horse racing’s top honor, the ultra-prestigious Kentucky Crown. From the first moment Stripes lays eyes on the track, he’s hooked–he knows that if he could just get the chance, he could leave all those other horses in the dust. What he doesn’t know is–he’s not exactly a horse. But with characteristic zeal, he devotes himself to training for the big time, with a little help from Tucker, who has coached a host of champion racehorses in the past.

Apne (2007)

An ex-boxer Baldev Choudhary (Dharmendra) has had a stain in his boxing career. He wanted to wash it with his son Angad’s (Sunny Deol) success, but times were hard and a financial crunch kept him from achieving this dream. Though Angad pulled through fine, Baldev never forgot who ruined his chance to wash the stain.

An opportunity strikes Baldev in the form of a T.V. Show. He trains a local boy to get into this media hyped boxing show, but is ditched for a better coach at the last minute. Baldev’s younger son Karan (Bobby Deol) has just launched his first music album. Realizing his father is in crises of his life, he gives up his dream of a musical career to get into the game of boxing. Karan works hard and wins all through thinking that his victory will bring the two pillars of his family together. After winning within the nation, he wins all over the world. The final match is with the current world heavy champion. The match goes fine, but Karan is tricked and he ends up paralyzed in a hospital bed. Baldev, who wanted to wash a stigma is now about to loose his son. He feels like killing himself. Angad steps in to turn the game upside down and bring his father the happiness of a lifetime.

Captivity (2007)

A young model is drugged, kidnapped and subject to harrowing torture in a cell of horrors in this spine chilling horror thriller. Jennifer is young, beautiful and famous. Everybody knows her name and her popularity brings her everything she wants in life- but one mans jealousy lures Jennifer to a dimension in torture when she finds herself drugged, captured and held in an underground maze of terror. Taken against her will and subject to psychological punishment, Jennifer soon questions her sanity as her watchful tormentor pits her in numerous twisted traps. After struggling to keep her mind, she meets with Gary, another prisoner in the sick games and together they try their wits to escape from the cells and defeat the madman behind the sick games- but are they already too late when they are bound, gagged and thrust into a world of pain?

Le Fanfaron

C'est la Ferragusto (15 août), jour férié en Italie. Tout est désert. Dans son modeste deux-pièces des environs de Rome, Roberto (Jean-Louis Trintignant), jeune et timide étudiant en droit, planche avec zèle sur la différence entre la nullité et l'annulabilité d'un acte juridique, quand tout à coup, dans un crissement de pneus de sa puissante voiture blanche, un escogriffe fort en gueule qui dit s'appeler Bruno Cortona (Vittorio Gassman) s'arrête devant chez lui et lui demande de passer un coup de fil à sa place. Roberto invite plutôt l'individu à monter chez lui - et se retrouve aussitôt entraîné dans une folle équipée à tombeau ouvert sur les routes de l'Italie, où souffle en ce début des années soixante un vent puissant de transformation sociale...

Un des chefs-d'oeuvre de Risi qui n'a pas pris une ride. Porté par Gassman en état de grâce, quintessence du "mâle" italien, séducteur, indélicat, insupportable, drôle et pathétique, le film se déroule de façon picaresque, presque au petit bonheur (il semble d'ailleurs bien plus long que ses 1 H 40). Trintignant est parfait en faire-valoir et quelques séquences (la visite dans la famille du jeune homme, entre autres) sont d'une profondeur inattendue. Auntie wants both Moon and Hyland to join her band of misfits because of Moon's abilities and Hyland's ability to dodge from other people's attacks, i.e. superspeed.

On the day of the Supreme Dim Sum competition, Madame To and his son SK To (Hacken) were appointed judges, since they owned one of the largest catering corporations in HK. The winner was Jade (Lau Yeung) and Madame To wanted his son to marry Jade. Ceci (Charmaine), a lower class girl employed to introduce the chefs onto the stage, was much impressed by SK more than Jade. Though SK was impressed with Jade, he refused to marry her.

SK was kidnapped one night and was held to ransom. However, luck would have it that the kidnappers imprisoned him in a small room on the rooftop of the building where Ceci lived with her father, Souza (Wong Jing). Ceci saved SK, and hid him in her home. Ceci took SK on a tour of Mongkok where SK did many things his mother never permitted him to do. He found Ceci's carefree attitude to life refreshing and fell in love with her.

SK took Ceci home to see his mother, who insisted that she would only consent to Ceci marrying SK if she cooked as well as Jade. Souza took her to Macau to learn the art of cooking from his ex-girlfriend Lady Green (Yuen Qiu) who was a descendant of another school of royal chef and an expert in using ordinary food to make a superb meal.

Ceci worked hard, and learned everything Lady Green taught her within a few months. She was confident enough to challenge Jade. It was not only a personal duel between Jade and Ceci, but also a contest between two schools of cooking, the North versus the South. During the last round, Ceci gave Jade a loaf of bread, by means of which Jade make the "Emperor toast" which won applause from all the judges. Ceci was given some noodles, by means of which she made a plate of "Brokeback Noodles". Who will finally win over the judges and become "The Lady Iron Chef"? Will Ceci live happily with her Prince Charming after all?
